The Most Wonderful Time of The Year (Late Christmas Post)

So I'm playing catchup on Christmas here. I actually started writing this last weekend (I know I'm a slacker) while I was sitting in the bed wide awake at 5 am (started at 3 am thanks to working nights lately), and trying to quietly eat a bowl of Capt'n Crunch like a 4 year old, without disturbing the other 7 people sleeping in our house at the time. I got to thinking of just how much I love this time of year. I know Christmas was a few weeks ago, but we were blessed to get to celebrate it one more time before putting up the tree, with my awesome in-laws.  Although I've always known, just like everyone else does, it's not all about the music, decorations, Hallmark movies (which I keep on 24/7), and presents; it's about the birth of our wonderful Savior.  Every year when I listen to a Christmas song or watch a Christmas movie I start feeling a little guilty almost for enjoying it because it has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus. But this year having toddlers has made me realize it is ok to enjoy all of it, because at that age they don't fully understand the story (and won't sit still long enough to hear it) or the idea, but when you turn on all the lights or watch Elf, or play some holly jolly music, or watch them unwrap a present and see how their eyes light up and their grins get bigger and their little laughs get louder; you realize it's a gift from God to enjoy these "things". It's ok for us to watch, listen, sing, and unwrap because we are still celebrating Jesus in our own ways.

I think I can speak for my our family when I say that it has been so amazing and humbling these boys a Christmas. I think we started on Black Friday and haven't stopped until our last of the gifts we opened.

They've been to 3 family Christmas parties, a party for foster children (thanks to wonderful people out there with big hearts for kids in need), traveled all over town to 4 houses on Christmas day, and got to do it one more time last weekend and end it with the lights at Bristol!

My sweet little Kyle worked his butt off the week of Christmas between working and bad bronchitis to make it possible for us to give the boys a play room as their present. We wanted them to have a space other than their bedroom they could make this own and turn it upside down with toys while they play.  We have an extra bedroom that was originally supposed to be my craft room (hahahahahahahahahahaha) that turned into a beautiful little junk room and now it's a playroom.

Right before Thanksgiving, when it was time to start thinking of what we were going to get the boys for Christmas, I was clueless. Honestly they have lots of toys and stuffed animals, and hot wheels cars, so I couldn't think of that one good present to get them, then it hit me...a play room. I told Kyle the idea and he loved it, he just wasn't too excited about cleaning and painting it. This room was the only room left alone by the people that flipped and sold our house because of the "beautiful", original real wood  paneled walls in there. They actually weren't terrible, they did give the house a little character, but changing this into a play room gave me an excuse to paint them.

I  must say the room has turned out to be pretty cute, although I think Kyle has vowed to never to a project for me again. We still got the boys some toys to put in there, we had his toy box his daddy built him when he was little to put in there, and it had some cute old toys in it and that box was overflowing. Once we fully finish decorating and final touches I will post some pictures of the end results.

While I was working Christmas eve night, Kyle wrapped the door up like a present, found an old house key and wapped it in a little box to go under the tree, and staged the room up really cute. The next morning we let them open their gifts and gave them the key last, which was fun because they had not been allowed in their room the whole time they've been with us because of the dangerous human eating junk in that room, so they didn't expect it to go to that room. They found the wrapped door, ripped off the paper, unlocked it (with some help haha) and ran inside. The look on their faces was priceless and they immediately started playing, which was great so we could run back and open our gifts alone.

We have honestly had the best time through Christmas and the Holidays watching the boys enjoy every bit of it. I'm just really excited to see what this year holds! Also, a little update (I know this post is so scattered) keep us in your prayers next Thursday at 1pm please, just a little meeting nothing big, but there are some things surrounded this meeting that needs prayer. And pray that some good things that may happen this month will go smoothly and happen as needed. I know those are vague requests, but that's all I can give right now. But if you see us out just ask for updates and pictures and we are so glad to share! Thanks!
