one day at a time
There may not be hundreds of people that follow our blog, but for those of you who do I apologize for slacking on the blog. Also, for different reasons right now we can't/aren't sharing pictures of the boys, but if you see us out please ask to see pictures if we haven't beat you to it. We love showing them off, but need to wait until the boys are officially (and legally) ours. So where do I begin to cover these last (almost) 3 months? I guess I will start from the beginning (or where I left off).
In my last post we announced that we would be getting 2 year old twin brothers starting on September 5. So, we actually got to let them move in onThursday, September 4, which was awesome! That Friday Kyle's family came in to meet the boys and our families threw us a little "meet-n-greet/shower" for the boys. They met so many people the first weekend and week they were with us. We were very blessed with great coworkers and employers who helped us to have a few weeks off to adjust to our new lives and schedules, and we are forever greatful for that time.
During that time off we took the boys to Myrtle Beach for the first time to meet the rest of Kyle's family and they absolutely loved the beach and ocean. The next week we took them to their first Gate City Football game, which they also loved...until half time, then they were over having to sit in one area. They got to go downtown to Lamplight Theatre's Fall Folk Fest and participated in every activity available (including eating, haha).
Once Kyle and I both started back to work, and the boys started daycare, we were afraid we would be doing less with them, but I think we've done more. We took them to our church's car show because they love cars and we thought maybe they would like to see life size versions of their toys, and boy were we right. They wanted to climb inside every car and drive, and would wave and say bye to everyone as they left. We went to Cleek Farms and had a night full of activities planned, but they loved the little cow train so much, that was all we had time for, which was perfectly fine with us. One Friday we took a day trip to Knoxville with Landon, and went to the mall and Build-A-Bear, which was so much fun. I was so excited about Halloween for them, but unfortunately one ended up with a bad cold and it was so nasty out they didn't get out in it. But they did get to stop by Aunt Amanda's wedding rehearsal where they got some treats and thanks to my parents they had been to Trunk-or-Treat the week before.
Let me rewind for just a minute...a week before we had a Child Family Team Meeting (CFTM) with DCS, where we learned a lot. Then, the next Thursday (Oct. 30) we had a court date to bring the information from the information from the CFTM before the judge, which also provided us with a lot more information. We will go back to court on April 23, 2015.
Now back to the fun stuff! We've taken mini road trips around town to watch the snow fall, done plenty of shopping, and out to dinner with the family. Thanksgiving was a blast! Kyle's family came in for the weekend (we hadn't seen them in 2 months!) and we've enjoyed every second together. Our one little handy man stayed back with Kyle and Kevin to finish putting their new beds together. While our little shopper went with Shea, Jamie, and me to do some Black Friday Christmas shopping on Saturday, haha. We decorated for Christmas, danced to Christmas music, and opened an early Christmas present...new pajamas, now they look like little candy canes. The past couple of days we have finished decorating, made Christmas cookies, drank homemade hot cocoa, watched Polar Express, had our first vist from Eddie (long story) the Elf on the Shelf- who made us an Elf sized Christmas breakfast, and decorated a little more.
These past three months have been busy to say the least, but I wouldn't change a thing about it. I may not have gotten to do all my big fall decorations this year as I usuly do, but I would rather have an under decorated house full of two sweet, rambunctious boys, than to have all the hay, scarecrows, pumpkins than any house in Tennessee. And all these fun times we've had doesn't mean we've not had our difficult days. There's been days I've questioned my ability as a mother, or questioned if I was even able to be a mother since I didn't have them myself, or wondered if God was sure He chose the right people for this, or wondered if God knew I'm really not that strong of a person and if their case goes downhill, I don't think I can handle it.
Some days I feel guilty for feeling stressed or tired after knowing what they have come from, but then I realize that situation is what can make some days so difficult and being in a loving stable home is a better situation. I also feel guilty at times because I know their are people out there with larger struggles than us, but I know that everyone has their own battles at different times and situations and that's why we rely on each other for encouragement. If some people hadn't faced something harder than others, then how would we ever get advice and encouragement to keep going.
Now that I've mostly gotten this up to date, I hope to keep it that way! We have had many ups and downs these last 3 months, but the ups definitely trump the downs. And every up, down, bump, bruise, road block, and uncertainties has definitely shaped us as parents and a family as a whole. We still have a long road ahead, but understand better now that we just have to take it one day at a time.

P.s. I apologize if anything is misspelled, looks funky, or words are jumbled together. I had to write this back and forth between my phone and computer, due to a virus on my computer.
